WHO ARE WE?

Student Support Services is a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education dedicated to helping students stay in college until they earn their baccalaureate degree. This program is recognized nationwide as one of five TRIO programs. The Student Support Services program is open to all eligible students regardless of race, color, sex, creed, age, ancestry, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, political affiliation, marital status, arrest, or conviction record.

WHAT’S OUR MISSION?

The mission of the Student Support Services program is to increase retention and graduation of students who are either low-income, first-generation (neither parent has a four year college degree), and/or are students who have a documented disability. The mission includes fostering an institutional climate supportive of the success of a diverse group of students who have an academic need by providing educational opportunities, giving attention to individual needs, and emphasizing academic excellence.

HOW CAN YOU BENEFIT?

Student Support Services helps eligible students successfully accomplish their academic goals and provides a foundation to overcome academic, social, and cultural barriers to higher education. To help students accomplish their goals, the Student Support Services program offers the following personalized (one-on-one) activities to eligible students:

-Academic advising
-Career planning
-Personal advising
-Financial aid advising
-Help for students of limited English proficiency
-Help with enrollment in graduate and professional programs
-Student Support Services also offers:
-A home-base supportive environment
-Orientation workshops
-Individual and group tutoring sessions
-Cultural/educational events (including leadership
-conferences and volunteer experiences)
-Study skills workshops
-Structured learning communities
-A “Start College Right” Summer Program
-Computer laptop checkouts
-Use of computerized study labs
-Experienced Academic Advisors

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

Students are eligible to apply if they meet one or more of the following criteria:
-Neither parent has a four-year degree
-Student meets income guidelines
-Student has a diagnosed disability
Students must be degree seeking, have a need for academic support, and be U.S. citizens.


HOW DO YOU APPLY?

Please call (262) 595-2726 and make an appointment, or stop by Student Support Services (located in the office of Educational Support Services across from the bookstore, WYLL D175). Students complete an application and an interview with Student Support Services staff and are then selected based on eligibility. Spaces are limited. Sign up now!
