upon all departments in the University to provide a systematic analysis of
women's experiences in society through classes, programs, and a minor in
Women's Studies. These courses and programs are relevant for women and men
seeking a fuller understanding of past, present and future social trends. |

Activities and Projects
- Focus on Women Conference 2001: March 3, 2001
Our annual conference, entitled "Diversity 2001: Where Will We Go From
Here?", will be held in the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Union. The
day will feature plenaries by Sheila Radford-Hill, author of Further to
Fly: Black Women and the Politics of Empowerment, and Margaret Hennington,
president of the Legacy Bank in Milwaukee. Break out sessions will give us
an opportunity to study and discuss diversity and to strategize about changing
the organizations and institutions we influence. The annual awards for excellence
in education, health/human services, professional/business, and volunteerism
will be presented at the luncheon. To obtain nomination forms for these

- Women in Math, Science, and Technology Day 2001: Friday, April 6, 2001
Our annual one-day program for seventh-grade girls is designed to encourage
young women to pursue their dreams of careers in math and science.

Laboratory for Attracting and Retaining Women in Computer Science
- Women and Poverty Public Education Initiative
The Women and Poverty Public Education Initiation is a project of research
and public education. We are working with other Women's Studies programs throughout
the state to carry out collaborative research and to promote dialogue among
the following groups: women whose lives have been affected by poverty; agencies
which are administering W-2; public officials who are formulating policy;
and other concerned citizens of Wisconsin.
- Teresa
Peck Award: 2000
This award, named for its founder, Women's Studies director from l981-85,
will be given for the best paper written by a UW-Parkside student during the
2000 calendar year.
University of Wisconsin System Women's Studies
Consortium
The Women's Studies Program at UW-Parkside is a member of the University of
Wisconsin System Women's Studies Consortium. The Women's Studies Consortium
works to ensure the continued development of Women's Studies in the UW System,
to maintain our current national prominence in the field, and to create a unique
inter-institutional model for educational innovation. The Consortium serves as
the formal organization of the fourteen campus-based Women's Studies programs
and UW-Extension.
