Secondary
data analysis is taking advantage of data we don't have
to collect ourselves, and using that data to reach our
own goals. Examples of data which might be available for
secondary analysis includes official public data from
government organizations, data we are able to use, with
permission, from business or non-profit organizations,
and data collected by researchers and stored in data archives
and libraries.
In this one-credit class we will focus
on how to find and use data from the U.S. Census in
our reports, papers, and grant proposals. We will also
work on how to effectively communicate ideas supported
by data in tables and graphs.
The
knowledge and experience you gain by an in-depth and
practical hands-on experience with these data should
give you the ability, using your creativity and ingenuity,
to tackle other sources of data on your own, in the
future. |
