The German Studies Program, which offers a German minor and a German Studies major, seeks to give students the requisite linguistic skills with which to read, discuss, and write intelligibly in German.
For students wishing to broaden their proficiency, the German Program offers advanced German-language courses which deal with aspects of German literature and culture. Students have an opportunity in these courses to sharpen their linguistic proficiency while at the same time gaining a better understanding of the contributions made by German-language philosophers, artists, and writers. The German Program course offerings can also be supplemented by a number of courses from other Departments as part of the German Studies Major. Students who wish to pursue graduate study or a career utilizing German are encouraged to take as many German Program courses as possible.
