About
the Gerontology Certificate
Our nation is approaching a milestone. Within
30 years, there will be 70 million people aged 65 and over.
Some will continue to work; others with embark on new careers
that will allow time for leisure activities, and others may
choose complete retirement. Many will be faced with changes
in their health and quality of life. No matter what choices
they make or what changes occur in their lives, as a group,
the elderly will require support with regard to money management,
leisure, health care, housing, and family issues. Gerontology
is the field that will provide you with the educational background
and job skills to respond to the needs of our aging population.
Earning a Certificate in Geronotology at the
University of Wisconsin-Parkside will show potential employers
that you have the educational experience necessary to relate
to the needs of our aging population and that you are motivated
and prepared to work in this field. Whether you have worked
with aging populations before or are new to this field, this
certificate provides the courses necessary to help you advise,
care, support, manage, and understand the special needs of
the elderly.
The certificate program can be completed in
one-year, with credit given to people who have had experience
working with this population and internship support for those
who need this experience. The program offers an array of courses
that provide the student with a well-rounded perspective on
the study of gerontology.
