Blogs are new on our site this semester. They're like diaries that we keep together. Have a question? Didn't understand something in a lecture? Send me a quick, and I do mean quick, e-mail, like "What on earth is a blog?", and I'll answer. So maybe will someone else. And soon you'll have a pretty good definition of a blog. Blogs are not for grades, though if I learn to know you through our blogs, I reckon that wouldn't hurt your grade. Blogs or for saying to each other all the things we never have time to say in class, and for saying to all of us, when you missed class, which I know you wouldn't do if it weren't absolutely necessary, like an issue of sleep deprivation.

Blogs are so blob-like that there're hardly any rules. Your child asks you what a blog is when he hears you talking about it, and you find it hard to explain to him, so he can write and ask us for a kid's explanation of a blog. We'll answer him.Your mother says it's ridiculous to spend so much time studying, and you are afraid you agree. You wonder how we would answer your mother. Ask us. We'll tell you. Some of us will probably even agree with her. Or maybe another mother will answer her.

Blogs can include pictures. Blogs can include drawings. Blogs should always remember to respect the Other - that's our mission here - illocutionary discourse and understanding. Anger can be expressed, but only in the Naked Space, where we examine all validity claims in good faith. We're trying to understand each other, not carry on the misunderstanding and harm and violence that await us in the real world.

This is a blog. It's a blog about blogs. And here's more about blogs: Blogs and Moblogs.

Now, another topic: growing old. I missed supper twice in San Francisco, 'cause I was so tired, I just wanted to sleep. It was exciting preparing for the conference, and even more exciting being there for a couple of really challenging sections. But I slept most of the day when we got back. And we never got to the beach. Time to rethink identity and that thought brought the drawing with Arnold to mind:
