Background Information
Adrienne Viramontes received a Bachelor of Arts degree in public relations from Purdue University Calumet in 1997.  In 2000 she received a Master of Arts degree (from PUC) in performance studies and qualitative methods.  She received her Ph.D. in Speech Communication in 2006 and specializes in the philosophy of communication, which includes critical studies (intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, class, industry, and geographic locale as they affect identity), phenomenology, and performance studies.  Her research always involves her lived experience and so she often writes about very personal issues in order to understand how the personal and the political relate to, influence, and are influenced by the larger social context.
